Born in London to actor Will Knightley and Sharman Macdonald, Knightley obtained an agent at the age of six. She initially employed in TV commercials and films. In 1999, she was Sabe for the role of Sabe Star Wars: Episode I: The Phantom Menace. Her breakthrough came when she played a tomboy footballer in the sports film Bend It Like Beckham (2002) which went on to achieve worldwide fame as Elizabeth Swann in the swashbuckler adventure series Pirates of the Caribbean, starting in 2003. Knightley got an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress for her performance as Elizabeth Bennet in Pride & Prejudice (2005). Knightley was also in many more period movies, like Atonement (2007 and a romance), The Duchess, (2008) as well as Anna Karenina, (2012). The actress also played a socialite named Georgiana as part of The Duchess. In addition, she branched out into modern dramatics.
